“Comfort Food” the Italian Way
Having grown up in an Italian family, VIA co-owner Madeleine Ahlquist remembers “Italian comfort food” being a constant on her family’s table. She and her husband, Robb Ahlquist, created VIA to bring that same feeling of comfort to diners in Worcester.
They took many trips to Italy and visited as many regions as they could to capture the diversity of the culture and the cuisine. The menu honors favorite dishes discovered during their travels, as well as old family recipes, in addition to American favorites. Together, we call these culinary gems: Italian Comfort Food.
The menu reflects the diversity of Italy by bringing together food from throughout the country on a unifying “Italian table.” It’s food that tastes great, but it will also bring back pleasant memories for some and make new memories for others. You’ll find familiar dishes, such as three meatballs, lasagna Bolognese, eggplant Parmesan, and Italian paella, amongst VIA favorites including spit-roasted beef tenderloin Florentine, Tuscan shrimp scampi, and swordfish Milanese.
If you’re looking for lighter fare, you can order off the bar menu from anywhere in the restaurant. Try any one of our amazing grilled pizzas. Or a sliced prosciutto salad with gorgonzola and walnut-stuffed figs, or arancini, VIA’s fried risotto balls with Bolognese stuffing.
Desserts are also truly Italian and range from gelato made in VIA’s gelato machine to VIA’s signature 15-layer crepe cake. Of course, you’ll also find other Italian favorites, including canoli, tiramisu, Italian chocolate cheese cake and an espresso brownie sundae.
The diverse wine list regularly receives the “Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator. While most Italian restaurants feature Chiantis, VIA also offers Montepulcianos and Montalcinos, Barolos and Barbarescos. There’s even a wide variety of super Tuscans to try, as well as a selection of California wines to match everyone’s tastes.
We invite you to sit at our table and discover why VIA has been named Worcester’s best Italian restaurant in local reader polls every year since it opened. There’s so much to taste and enjoy. You may never want to leave.
